NECS and FOCS Freecooling Chillers

Climaveneta chillers by Powermaster introduce the NECS scroll and FOCS screw chillers with integral Freecooling function. A compulsory choice whenever load demands are high all year round, even in winter. In fact, the bigger the difference between the chilled water temperature desired and the outdoor air temperature, the greater the free-cooling advantages.

Energy reductions of up to 50%

Summer

The water is completely chilled by the compressors during the normal cooling cycle. The water coil is completely off

Mid-Season

The water is partially cooled by the outdoor air, and partially chilled by the compressors. The percentage of freecooling obtained by the freecooling system activity depends on the outdoor air temperature

A 3-way-valve is used to involve the water coils. This phase is very important: the Freecooling unit makes optimum use of all resorces available in order to optimize power consumption

Winter

The water is chilled only by the water coil because the outdoor air temperature is already low enough. In this type of chilling the only power consumed is used for the fans.

Energy Savings - Freecooling compared to Non-Freecooling

We compared the performance of a standard air cooled Climaveneta NECS chiller with an air-cooled NECS-FC free-cooling chiller. In four different cities in Europe: Birmingham. Lyons, Belin and Stockholm. The power absorbed as a function of the outdoor air temperature proved to be the same regardless of location for both whereas the differences in temperature distrubution and the power absorbed by the two were clear indeed.

The comparison showed the free-cooling unit to be extremely advantageous. Especially at higher latitudes and in a continental climat, the free-cooling unit proved to be indispensable and permitted the systems power costs to be reduced by as much as 50%.
